UK Businesses mark Workers' Memorial Day

Every year, April 28th marks Workers’ Memorial Day – when businesses around the globe commemorate those who have died or been injured in the course of their daily occupations. Workers’ Memorial Day is a vitally important event because it highlights the need for maintaining high standards of health and safety practices in all hazardous industries. Trade unions, occupational safety campaigners and bereaved or financially affected families all come together to remember those who have lost their lives, and to focus on better ways of protecting workers on a daily basis. Workers’ Memorial Day 2011 was also particularly significant as it marked the first anniversary of official recognition of the event in the UK.
